Movies on VHS: Collection of Red Dot Rental, Iowa City, Iowa

Collector's Directions For Use: Last November, I saw a listing on Freecycle for "1000 Movies on VHS". Being a film geek and sometimes-hoarder, I immediately tried to lay a claim on the tapes. When I found out that they were not store bought, but rather home-recorded from HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and the like, I knew that I had to have them. I opened a free "video-store" named Red Dot Rental, so that others may rent the tapes and join me in going through them, as a good majority of them are without labels. At over 400 VHS tapes, with 3-5 movies per tape, the inventory of Red Dot Rental may be the world's largest collection of home-recorded VHS tapes available to the public. The work of one man's obsesssion, the tapes have found themselves changing hands over the internet and going into dark closets or forgotten spots in the basement. With the grand opening of Red Dot Rental, they now get the respect they deserve.
