I began taking photographs of these barriers in 2006 as research for the public project STASH - a collaboration with Nance Klehm. Chicago alleys and loading docks are home to a variety of these constructions - many of which are hand-made by home owners to protect their garages and buildings from cars. The first 30 photos come from this initial research. Additional photos were taken in Chicago in 2007. In May, 2010 I created a Flickr page for this series that includes some of these older photos at full size, as well as a number of new photos from 2010.
